Meeting of the International Programme and Drafting Committee (IPDC) of the Budapest Water Summit 2019 was held in Balatonfüred
The Committee, consisting of 9 world-renowned experts of the water sector, is responsible for preparing the programme and the closing document of the Budapest Water Summit 2019 (BWS 2019). Chaired by Professor András Szöllősi-Nagy, the Committe drafted the first version of the Budapest Appeal at the three-day meeting, held between 13-16 June 2019. The Summit is organized for the third time by the Hungarian Government and is under the patronage of President of the Republic of Hungary, H.E. Mr János Áder.
This year's BWS 2019 draws attention to the urgency of tackling the challenges of the emerging water crises, also reflected in the motto of the event: "Preventing the Water Crises". Therefore, the Appeal aims to set out concrete recommendations for governments and citizens of the world to prevent and manage water crises caused by abundant, scarce and polluted waters.
The preparatory body of the Summit has now come together for the second time in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.
The organisers of the Budapest Water Summit 2019 are again providing the opportunity to hold side events on the margins of the conference. Application for organising side events was closed on 5 June 2019.
Hungary joins the work of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through the water sector. In the coming weeks, it shall be reviewed what projects Hungarian companies and government agencies could take part in – said Mr Levente Magyar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, during the conference entitled „Water Connects – Enabling the Environment for Investments in the Water Sector.”

With the participation of the relevant ministries, professional organisations and educational institutions, the Organising Committee of the Budapest Water Summit 2019 (BWS2019) held its inaugural meeting on 6 February 2019.
Building on the success of the events held in 2013 and 2016, Hungary will host the third Budapest Water Summit in 2019. Under the patronage of H.E. Mr János Áder, President of Hungary, the conference will take place on 15-17 October 2019. The conference is organised by the Government of Hungary.
The Budapest Water Summit 2016 (BWS 2016), held in Budapest on 28-30 November 2016, was one of the most important water-related events on a global scale in 2016. Over 2,200 participants from 117 countries gathered in Hungary’s capital. Focusing on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda, the Summit also adopted a plan of action for measures to be implemented in the next 15 years in order to tackle water-related challenges.
The first Budapest Water Summit held in 2013 clearly contributed to the adoption of a stand-alone Sustainable Development Goal on water-related challenges (Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Water and Sanitation). The event had more than 1,400 registered participants from 105 countries and was attended by the UN Secretary-General.
