The Global Climate Change Spiral

The video showing the global variation of temperatures between 1850 and March 2016 is going viral on the Internet. A number of scientific questions have been raised regarding the data sets behind the animation produced by Ed Hawkins. Yet its greatest advantage has not been contested: it presents the fact that our planet is getting warmer, and the alarming rate of change, in a clear and straightforward manner.

The many interlinked consequences of global warming include the increasing demand for water and the accompanying reduction of our reserves of freshwater. Those two obvious and conflicting processes in themselves present serious challenges for decision-makers, water management specialists and mankind as a whole.
